The taking of exams under the A.M.E.B. (Australian Music Examinations Board) (www.ameb.nsw.edu.au)  system is encouraged at THE BRASS STUDIO

Rather than being the seemingly "daunting" experience some of us had as kids, we find that, with proper and thorough preparation, the modern exam experience can be quite pleasant.  It is usually followed by the realisation that the work has been completed successfully and that all the effort has been rewarded with a demonstrable increase in playing ability.

Key Benefits

bulletExams as a "framework"

By utilising the structured qualities of the syllabus and exam timetable (exams are held in May and September), a framework can be created for a students own work.  Clear goals can be set and a the structure of lessons and practice can be geared towards achieving those goals. With each grade completed, the student can point to a steady and organised increase in their skills and even have a certificate to prove this to the world.

bulletExams as an indicator.

A.M.E.B. exams are essentially a test of competency.  They are a simple indication of whether or not the candidate can complete the requirements at the predetermined  standard.  For example: can the candidate play set scale - yes or no.  It is a simple process and can be made even simpler if the students are well prepared and have all the preliminary work.  Therefore, a pass (or better) in any particular grade says _ "I have done the work".
